The Montgomery County Civic Band continues its 2025 Summer Season on Sunday with a “Concert in the Park.”
The 3 p.m. performance will be held at Crawfordsville’s Milligan Park near the north shelter house. Guests to the concert should bring their own folding chairs or blankets for seating.
After opening with our national anthem, the band will perform “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music. Next is “The Lion King” medley which includes “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and other songs from the 1994 animated movie.
For a change of pace, the band has a new arrangement in their library called “Where the Waters Meet.” This gentle selection is based on the British Isles folk tune, “O Waly, Waly.” The melody is also known as “The Water is Wide.”
Malinda Zenor, an Indiana composer who lived in nearby Putnam County for more than 50 years, has written numerous selections for concert bands. She dedicated “Forest Park Brigade” to the Brazil, Indiana concert band which has been performing summer concerts since 1858. Another of Zenor’s compositions, “Front Porch Swing” is also slated for Sunday’s concert. Lively tunes from the early 1900’s as well as popular favorites from the Beatles will round out the concert. There will even be a nod to Crawfordsville’s Strawberry Festival with “Who’s in the Strawberry Patch with Sally.”
As per tradition, children from the audience are invited to help direct the band on the final selection, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
All concerts are free, but the band gladly accepts monetary donations to help purchase music and equipment.
