Clinic director reacts to coronavirus crisis

At the beginning of the year, Kay Nannet, RN, WHNP-BC, AGPCNP-C, assumed the duties as executive director and nurse practitioner at the Dr. Mary Ludwig Free Clinic.

Nannet replaced outgoing director, Bill Doemel, who helped found the clinic and served as its director from 2012 to 2019. He is now the clinic’s computer consultant. A celebration of his ongoing service will be held at a to-be-determined date in the future.

Nannet has been involved with the clinic for many years. She has lived in Montgomery County since 1991 and returned to school to get her adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, specifically so she could volunteer at the cinic.

At this time, the clinic, like all medical institutions in Montgomery County, is reacting to the coronavirus pandemic. Nannet notes that while the clinic is not receiving patients in person at this time, it is staffed weekdays. She and a nurse volunteer are present each day. The clinic can be contacted for consultations by phone and, if the patient has the necessary computer or phone equipment, telehealth visits. She advises prospective patients to contact the clinic to see how it can help them safely during this difficult time.

While the clinic does not perform COVID-19 tests, it can question callers to see if they qualify for testing and it is in constant communication with the health department to monitor the availability and criteria for testing. The clinic is reaching out to the community with emails, texts and phone blasts to disseminate information.

Nannet notes that with many community members facing unemployment, she realizes that demand for the clinic’s services and for financial assistance with medical bills may rise. The clinic is coordinating with Meals on Wheels and local food pantries to help address increased demand for food while keeping volunteers as safe as possible.

If you have questions or health concerns, the clinic can be contacted at 765-362-3244.
