INDIANAPOLIS — On the heels of a comeback road win versus a ranked opponent, UIndy student-athletes TJ Edwards and Alex Parsons, a 2016 North Montgomery graduate, were voted GLVC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. The pair helped the Greyhounds to a season-opening 24-9 at 23rd-ranked Ashland last Thursday.

In his first game as a Greyhound, Edwards amassed a stat line of 17-for-23 passing for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns, leading UIndy to 24 unanswered points and three second-half touchdowns. More significantly, his 59-yard bomb to junior Aaron Matio midway through the fourth quarter to give him 80 career TD passes, setting a new GLVC record. The transfer quarterback, who garnered his fifth career GLVC weekly award, came to UIndy after spending three seasons at Southwest Baptist University.

Parsons, meanwhile, spearheaded a defensive effort that held the host Eagles scoreless for the final 37 minutes of play. The senior linebacker earned his first career GLVC Player of the Week award by affecting the game in a number of ways, compiling eight total tackles, two TFLs, a half sack, an interception and a pass break-up. His timely INT came with six minutes to go, ending a promising Ashland drive that could have made it a one-possession game.

The Greyhounds remain out-of-conference next week as they welcome the Hillsdale Chargers for the 2019 home opener Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET.
