Williams, Jags earn league title

With a 60-53 win over Milwaukee last Friday, the IUPUI women’s basketball team clinched the Horizon League title outright.

Fountain Central grad Macee Williams had 14 points and four rebounds in the win. The junior and reigning HL player of the year is averaging 17.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for the 20-8 Jags, who will be the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League tourney, receiving a bye to the semifinals to be played at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Monday, March 9.

Sacco, Little Giants third at NCAC

Southmont grad and Wabash College sophomore Ryan Sacco placed eighth in the 1650 yard freestyle at the NCAC meet with a time of 16:20.93, his best time of the year.

Wickholm helps Wildcats to second-place finish

Southmont grad Madison Wickholm helped Indiana Wesleyan to a second place finish at the Mid-South Conference meet in early February.

Wickholm helped the 200 medley relay team to a second-place finish in a time of 1:48.51. The junior also placed eighth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:21.9, and helped the 200 freestyle relay to a second-place finish in 1:39.16.

Johnson, Boilers off to 6-1 start

In his second start of the season, former Crawfordsville standout and Purdue junior Trent Johnson picked up the win in six innings pitched in a 6-4 victory over Campbell. Johnson tossed six innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run, while walking one and striking out three.

Dugger gearing up for indoor GLVC

Southmont grad Kelsey Dugger and the UIndy track and field team most recently competed in the Steemer Classic at Wittenberg.

Dugger placed sixth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:44.39.

Dugger and the rest of the Greyhounds track and field team will compete in the GLVC indoor meet this weekend Indianapolis.

Lowe earns RSC honors

Southmont grad and Indiana East track and field standout Justin Lowe was recently named River States Conference athlete of the week.

Lowe won two events at the Kent State Tune Up to earn River States Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17-23. Lowe won the individual 400 meters and was a part of the winning 4x400 relay at Kent State. His time of 48.72 won first in the 400 and qualified him for the NAIA national meet under the ‘A’ standard. IU East had already qualified for nationals in the 4x400 and posted a time of 3:19 at Kent State. Lowe has qualified to run in the 400, 600 and the 4x400 relay at the NAIA indoor national meet next weekend in Brookings, S.D.

Long, IUPUI to compete in Horizon League

Former Southmont track and field star Brooks Long recently placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:21.9 for IUPUI at the DePauw Indoor Invitational. Long and the Jags will compete in the Horizon League indoor Championships this weekend in Youngstown, OH.



Payton, Pietrzak compete for Sycamores

Former Fountain Central long distance standout Ben Payton placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 4:30.29 for Indiana State at a meet at Eastern Illinois. Logan Pietrzak placed 10th with a time of 4:31.14.
Knowling seeing time for Hanover softball

Hanover softball is off to a 4-4 start on the season, and Southmont grad Paige Knowling has taken the ball in four of the games. Knowling picked up her first collegiate victory in a 15-0 win over Northern Vermont-Johnson. The freshman pitched three innings, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out three.

Knowling also has three hits in nine at-bats this season.

Adams, Jones staying hot for Knights

The Marian University baseball team has continued to win ball games to start the 2020 regular season with a 7-5 record.

Former Crawfordsville standout Caden Jones is batting .355 with 11 hits and eight RBI, including a pair of home runs.

North Montgomery product Baylee Adams is hitting .306 with 10 RBI.
