Johnson suffers loss, Boilermakers struggle

Former Crawfordsville All-State pitcher Trent Johnson suffered his first setback of the season when Purdue dropped a 9-1 ball game to No. 19 ranked Michigan last Friday.

Johnson gave up five earned runs in five innings pitched, allowed eight hits while walking two and striking out five. 

Long, McKinney
win in Wabash loss

Southmont grads Reese Long and Trevor McKinney continued their winning ways as freshmen for the Wabash tennis program.

In a 5-4 Little Giants loss to Trine, Long won his No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Drew Dixon, while McKinney beat Alex Mullet 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Chadd, Little Giants close out season

Former Southmont star Cam Chadd and the Wabash Little Giant basketball team closed their shortened season out last week with a 91-79 win over Denison.

Wabash finished the season 6-6. In nine games played, Chadd scored 22 points, knocking down 6-of-12 3-pointers, and hauled in 11 rebounds and dished out 12 assists.

Merica picks up win in relief 

North Montgomery graduate Mitch Merica picked up his first win of the season in a 9-6 Franklin College win over Anderson last Saturday.

Merica tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, while walking one and striking out three.

Jones, Knights win 5 In a row

Marian Baseball went a perfect 5-0 last week, including a four-game sweep of Goshen College last week to improve its record to 13-8 on the season.

In an 8-3 win, Crawfordsville graduate Caden Jones drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. He also had two hits and a RBI in a 4-3 extra-inning win. 

Richardson earns HCAC honors

Former Southmont distance standout Thomas Richardson earned a pair of all-conference honors. 

Richardson placed third in the 5K at the indoor HCAC meet with a time of 15:53.41, and set a new personal record in the 3K with a time of 8:52 at the indoor season finale. Richardson’s time is the seventh fastest 3K in Manchester history. He also placed third in the HCAC cross country meet with a time of 25:54.73.

Bronaugh standing out as freshman

Crawfordsville grad Tristen Bronaugh is standing out during his freshman track and field season at Manchester.

Bronaugh placed fifth in the 400 meter dash at the HCAC indoor meet with a time of 53.24 seconds, raking him seventh all-time in the Manchester record book for the indoor 400-meter dash. He also placed second in the 60-meter dash at the DePauw triangular meet with a person best----- time of 7.45 seconds.

Pryor helps Rose-Hulman to titles

Crawfordsville graduate and former standout distance runner Nathan Pryor helped the Rose-Hulman men’s track and field and cross country teams to HCAC team titles.

Pryor placed 10th in the 5K at the indoor track and field championships with a time 17:07.78. In the cross country meet, Pryor was 27th in a time of 28:08.79.

Bradford, France, Greiner compete for Little Giants

Wabash College freshman Jaron Bradford, Nathan France, and Takeshi Greiner all competed for the Little Giants in a triangular meet at DePauw.

Bradford placed 14th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.04 seconds, while Nathan France placed eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.79 seconds, and seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.71 seconds. 

Greiner was second in the 200 meter dash with a season-best time of 24.13 seconds, and third in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.05 seconds. 

Bradford placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-foot-7.

Hurt compete in C-USA indoor meet

Former Crawfordsville standout distance runner Maddy Hurt competed with the Western Kentucky women’s track and field team at the Conference USA indoor championships.

Hurt placed 20th in the mile run with a time of 5:22.73 and 28th in the 3K with a time of 10:44.98.

McCarty has INT in Franklin win

Former Crawfordsville football standout Cale McCarty helped Franklin College football to a 50-3 win over Manchester.

McCarty had an interception and two tackles in the win.
