COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Williams leads Jags on win streak, North's Adams and South's Lowe earn player of the week honors

Williams helping Jags to win streak

IUPUI women’s basketball has won 10 straight games, and Fountain grad Macee Williams has been at the center of it.

Williams recently earned her fourth Horizon League Player of the Week honors. The junior scored 16 points in a 58-48 win over Cleveland State, and 25 points in a 77-69 win over Youngstown State. Williams is averaging 16.7 points per game and 9.2 rebounds. The Jags are 16-6 on the season, including a 10-1 league record.

Adams and Jones lead Marian to 2-0 start

The Marian University baseball team started the 2020 season with a pair of wins over Piedmont International.

In a 14-3 win in the season opener, Crawfordsville grad Caden Jones had a hit and scored three runs, while North Montgomery grad Baylee Adams had three hits and drove in four runs. Adams added two more hits in a 6-5 win over Piedmont, while Jones had one.

The Knights then defeated Trinity International 7-1 on Monday, where Jones had three more hits and drove in two runs.

Adams was named Crossroads Player of the Week with his efforts over the weekend.

Humphrey and McGrady compete at Butler Invite

As their freshman swim seasons are nearing the end, 2019 Crawfordsville graduates Emily Humphrey and Cami McGrady were both in the pool at Butler’s Invitational on Jan. 26. Humphrey for Valparaiso and McGrady for Butler.

Humphrey competed in the 200 medley relay, with her team finishing 16th in a time of 2:00.03. McGrady was 12th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.97, while Humphrey was 24th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.61. Humphrey was also 24th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:48.30. McGrady was 28th in the 500 freestyle in 6:19.17. Humphrey and McGrady also both competed in the 400 freestyle relay.

Swick scores seven points in Adrian win

The Adrian Men’s basketball team has won two of its last three games and are now 9-10 on the season. Southmont grad Kaleb Swick scored seven points in the Bulldogs 76-59 win over Calvin on Jan. 29. The sophomore is averaging six points and four rebounds a game.

Webster picks up first Big Ten win

North Montgomery grad and Purdue redshirt sophomore Tanner Webster has cemented himself into the Boilermaker lineup at 165 pounds. The Boilermakers are 11-4 on the season and amidst a four-match stretch against top-25 Big Ten opponents. Webster picked up his first Big Ten dual-meet win 6-4 over Indiana’s Dillon Hoey.

Purdue hosts No. 6 Nebraska on Friday night at Mackey Arena.
Zimmerman competes for Raiders

Southmont grad Owen Zimmerman has seen lots of action in the pool during his sophomore season at Mount Union. In a recent meet against Westminster College, Zimmerman was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of  56.05 seconds.

Lowe named RSC T&F athlete of the week

Southmont grad and IU East senior Justin Lowe was recently named River States Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Lowe broke the school record in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:20.91, and was a part of the school-record breaking 4X400 relay team with a time of 3:21.35 all at the SPIRE Midwest Open on Jan. 25.

Long fourth in mile

Southmont grad Brooks Long finished fourth in the mile run at the Mastodon Invitational for IUPUI with a time of 4:32.29 back in mid January.

Payton competes for Sycamores

Fountain Central grad Ben Payton competed in a pair of events for Indiana State, helping the Sycamores to a win in the John Gartland Invite on Jan. 25.

Payton placed 12th in the mile run with a time of 4:34.05, and helped the distance medley relay team to a third-place finish in a time of 10:45.34.

Dugger 9th in 800 for Greyhounds

Southmont grad Kelsey Dugger ran to an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run for UIndy at the Greyhound Invitational on Feb. 1.
