Montgomery County Commissioners set weight limits for all county roads on Monday during their regular meeting.
No vehicle with a gross weight of more than eight tons will be allowed on county roads. The only exception being made are for the following roads:
• Ladoga Road to Crawfordsville
• Old State Road 55 from Crawfordsville to Wingate
• C.R. 100N from New Richmond to State Road 25
• Russellville Road from Russellville to State Road 47
• Nucor Road from C.R. 500S to State Road 32
• C.R. 1000N from Linden to New Richmond
• C.R. 600S from State Road 47 to U.S. 231
• Ladoga Road to Roachdale Road
• C.R. 400S from Nucor Road to a half mile east of Nucor Road
• C.R. 400W between State Road 32 and U.S. 136
• Comfort Drive from Nucor Road to C.R. 250E
• C.R. 800N from U.S. 231 to C.R. 100W
• C.R. 100W from C.R. 800N to C.R. 1100N
• C.R. 1100N from C.R. 100W to U.S. 231.
Delivery vehicles making deliveries to properties, agricultural vehicles and servicing vehicles on county roads are excepted. School buses, trash trucks and utility trucks are also excepted.
Commissioners raised the fine for violations to $2,000.
Commission president Dan Guard said the new fine was needed mainly due to state highway detour routes using county roads. Large trucks are not allowed on detours unless the detour includes the excepted roads established by commissioners. Guard said presently there are county roads being used by heavy trucks and deteriorating two county roads associated with the State Road 32 East road closure.
Commissioners opened six bids for the owner-occupied grant program. All bids were taken under advisement.
The next commissioners meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 12 at the Montgomery County Government Center.
