Commissioners open highway bids

Montgomery County Commissioners opened bituminous material bids on Monday.

The bids were for gas, fuel, oil, exhaust fluid, culverts, treated salt, aggregates, 50/50 dust control materials, signs, tires, tubes and batteries.

Commissioners were pleased with the large number of bids received. All bids were taken under advisement and presented to Montgomery County Highway Director Jake Lough.

A bid in the amount of $275,440 and an alternant bid in the amount of $17,800 were accepted for work to be done at the Thomas K. Milligan Justice Center. J.R. Kelly will begin the work as soon as possible. Funding will come from the general budget.

Wade Bennett was awarded the three-year contract to cash farm the county farm. Bennett’s bid was $235 an acre. Total acreage is 24.6 acres.

An ordinance passed on second reading to amend the speed limit on C.R. 500 North between the eastern town limits of Darlington and S.R. 47 North. The new speed limit is reduced to 30 m.p.h.

Two ordinances creating a fund for the DOC Drug Court Grant in the amount of $80,441 and creating the 2025 DOC Probation Grant Fund in the amount of $164,890 was introduce.

Commissioners held a public hearing and then approved a request by Roxanne Hudson to vacate certain alleys and a street in the Fitzpatrick area. Commissioners than approved the closings.

An agreement for $20,000 between the City of Crawfordsville and the county for mapping services was approved.

The next commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. Dec. 9.
