Montgomery County Commissioners want the county plan commission to take another look at a petition to change the zoning classification of six acres on Fall Creek Road.
The property is currently zoned agricultural, but the owner wants to build residential homes on the parcel.
The owner, Dwight Miller, owns the land and he is the pastor at the nearby Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church. He initiated the re-zoning process after some of his parishioners asked to build homes near the church.
The plan commission sent the request onto the commissioners with an unfavorable designation for six plots on the six acres. However, when Miller addressed commissioners on Monday, he disclosed he would be fine asking for two plots on the six acres.
Commissioner Jim Fulwider said reducing the division from six to two plots would be a good reason to send the petition back to the plan commission for reconsideration. A motion by Fulwider was approved so the petitioner can re-start the process of re-zoning with the change.
Commissioners signed the most recent burn ban, effective Oct. 21 through Oct. 28. The ban prohibits open burning inside the county. Campfires and recreational fires must be enclosed in a fire ring with dimensions of 23 inches and in diameter of 10 inches or larger. Burning debris, such as timber or vegetation and fireworks are prohibited. Burning in burn barrels is allowed with a 1/4-inch mesh top from dawn to dusk only.
