Montgomery County Commissioners updated a memorandum of understanding for economic development with the City of Crawfordsville on Monday.

The update states the city will take the lead on economic development efforts for project responses, marketing and business retention visits. The memo also calls for a monthly meeting to discuss economic development activity.

Commissioners awarded bids for roof replacements for properties located on 711 S. Grant St. and 805 E. Chestnut St. as part of the Thrive West Central home rehabilitation program.

Thrive program director Kristine Krueger provided an update on the program. There were 36 applicants from the county and 25 were approved.

Approved applicants include six disabled persons, seven single parents, four veterans and 20 identified as aging and include properties in Ladoga, Darlington, Alamo, Linden, New Market, New Richmond, New Ross, Waveland, Waynetown and Wingate.

Rehabilitation needs include the new roofs, water heater, heating and cooling projects and ADA projects.

Commissioners agreed to streamline the process of approving contractor work within the program to speed up the process.

Program applicants must meet income requirements and own their home.

In other business, commissioners:

• Approved a request from Montgomery County Sheriff Ryan Needham to declare a revolver used by retiring Captain Jeremy Hughes as surplus so that Needham may award the gun to Hughes at his retirement on July 16.

• Learned Tox-Away-Day is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 5 at Crawfordsville High School.

The next commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. July 14 at the Montgomery County Government Center.
