Community Christmas Dinner prep underway

Posted

The Christmas season is again upon us, and plans for the 2022 Montgomery County Community Christmas Dinner are in full swing.

Preparations are being made for a festive dine-in experience at First Baptist Family Life Center, 1905 Lebanon Road, Crawfordsville. A traditional meal of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, noodles, rolls and variety of desserts will be served from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 25.

Heading up this year’s dinner is a new chairman, Isaac Weliver. He replaces Joyce Fitzwater who led the event from 2010 through 2021.

Weliver, owner and chef at Francis and Mount, trained with Fitzwater last year and is looking forward to this year’s dinner.

“This year I have the honor of serving the community as chairperson of the Christmas Dinner,” Weliver said. “My mom, Christie (Wilson) Weliever transitioned fromm this life to the next on Christmas 2017. I volunteer on Christmas in rememberance of her.”

Weliver is asking others join him in the spirit of volunteering and giving to others.

“After years, and sometimes decades of service, we have several volunteers who would like to pass the torch to future community servants,” he said. “And we have big shoes to fill.”

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available, including delivery drivers, cooks, meal assembly, buffet attendents and clean-up crew.
