City OK’s funds for trash truck

Financing for a new trash truck for the city’s street department gained approval Monday.

Crawfordsville City Council members voted 6-0 to approve the first reading of an ordinance making an additional appropriation of $79,913 to the city’s 2025 budget. The funds are for a lease payment on the new trash truck.

Mayor Todd Barton told the council the truck was ordered two years ago and was recently delivered.

He also added that the purchase of the new truck “carries us over for awhile.”

In other business, the council:

• Adopted an ordinance amending the city code to allow city boards to conduct meetings in locations other than the City Building. Some boards now will be able to meet at a more convenient locations. The amendment states as long as the meeting location is accessible to the public and doesn’t violate the Indiana Open Door Law, the board can meet at its desired location.

• Adopted an ordinance vacating a portion of a north-south alley directly east of 508 Curtis St., also commonly known as the alley between lots 1, 2 and 42 of Highland Park subdivision, to help facilitate a property sale.

• Adopted an ordinance to annex approximately 147 acres of land at State Road 47S, Purple Heart Parkway and U.S. 231S in Crawfordsville and the associated right-of-way. The property is owned by ASLM and requested the annexation so they could have access to city utilities to develop projects on the property.

• Voted to change its monthly June meeting to 6 p.m. June 16 in the council chambers of the City Building.
