All six of Montgomery Counties boys and girls soccer teams now know what lies ahead for them in the sectional as the IHSAA held its annual pairings show on Sunday night. Our six county soccer teams are spread out amongst three different sectional sites. Let’s see how the draw panned out for each team starting with the girls.
Class A Sectional 41 @ Southmont
The Lady Mounties have the luxury of getting to host the Class A Sectional 41 tournament this year. The five-team sectional field includes South Vermillion, Greencastle, Cascade, North Putnam and the host Mounties. Southmont drew Cascade in game one of the tournament which begins next Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Mounties already own a 2-1 win over the Cadets this season.
The other three teams will need to win just a single game to play for the sectional title as South Vermillion and North Putnam drew each other in the top half of the bracket and Greencastle awaits the winner between the Mounties and Cadets. Greencastle comes into the sectional as the 10th ranked team in Class A and holds wins over both Southmont (3-0) and Cascade (3-1). The semi-finals will be next Thursday with the sectional title game scheduled for next Saturday at 7 p.m.
Class 2A Sectional 25 @ Tri-West
Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will both compete in the Class 2A Sectional 25 at Tri-West. The Bruins will host the six-team sectional that along with CHS, NM and them includes Western Boone, Danville and Frankfort. All six teams are very familiar with each other as they are all Sagamore Conference foes.
Crawfordsville will play in the opening game of the sectional which gets underway next Tuesday. The Athenians will take on WeBo in the opening game at 5:30 . The Stars and Athenians play Wednesday in the regular season. North Montgomery will play right after the conclusion of the Stars and Athenians on that same Tuesday as the Chargers drew the 19th ranked Tri-West Bruins who hold a win over them already this season.
In the bottom half of the bracket both Danville and Frankfort drew the bye into the semi-finals and will square off next Thursday. The sectional championship game is slated for next Saturday with a 7 p.m. start.
Now for the boys who are all in the same sectional
Class 2A Sectional 25 @ Danville
All three Montgomery County teams are in the same Class 2A Sectional 25 which is hosted by Danville this year. The seven-team sectional features Crawfordsville, Southmont, North Montgomery, Danville, Western Boone, Cascade, and Monrovia.
The Mounties will get things underway in the opening game of the sectional which gets underway next Monday. Southmont will take on the host Warriors at 6 p.m. Danville owns a 2-1 win over the Mounties this season with both goals being scored in the final minutes. Western Boone awaits the winner in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
A county rivalry will take place in game two of the sectional on Tuesday when the Athenians and Chargers meet up for the second time this season. Cville owns 9-0 win over the Chargers which clinched the county title. The winner between the Chargers and Athenians will take on the winner between Monrovia and Cascade in Wednesday’s second semi-final. The Cadets come in as the 9th ranked team in Class 2A. Crawfordsville comes in as the defending sectional champions.
