Crawfordsville battling Bruins on senior night

Posted

Crawfordsville will welcome the ever-tough Tri-West Bruins to the Athenian Complex on Friday night as CHS honors its 16 seniors for senior night. Crawfordsville comes into the contest with a record 2-5 (1-4 SAC) on the season while the Bruins are still battling for a Sagamore Conference title with a record of 5-2 (4-1 SAC). Despite the challenge that lies ahead for coach Brad Clark and his Athenians, Clark is excited for his seniors to be honored on Friday.

“This is a great group of kids first and foremost,” Clark said of his 16 seniors. “They are tremendous young men and I’m glad to have the chance of coaching them. Most of these guys are four year players too which says a lot about them to stick with the program despite a lack of success. They are using that as motivation for the next group of guys that will be leading this program in the future.”

The Bruins come in with the top-ranked passing attack in the SAC with senior quarterback Ty Owens under center. Owens has thrown for 1,423 yards this season with 15 touchdowns while completing 59% of his throws.

Owens has plenty of weapons to throw to but is led by junior Noah Lien who has 38 catches for 420 yards. Cole Morgan (25 for 350), Alex Ziats (7 for 152), and Connor Syester (16 for 139) all have played a role the high-powered Bruin offense which averages nearly 29 points a game.

“We know the kind of challenge that they’re going to give us especially in that passing game which can be pretty explosive,” Clark said. “They have great athletes on both sides of the ball and it’ll be a tremendous team that we’re going up against for sure. We’re more focused on our own effort and execution and are really looking to have a consistency on both sides of the ball. If we do that then we can live with the result.”
Crawfordsville and Tri-West will get things going beginning at 7 pm. You can catch live updates on the Journal Review Sports Twitter page @JR_Sports.
