Crawfordsville man jailed on murder charge

A Crawfordsville man has been jailed in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found on a bridge west of the city early Thursday morning.

Michael Dale Parks, 44, was arrested at 5:34 p.m. Thursday on a preliminary charge of murder. He is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

The woman has not been identified.

The arrest comes after deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the bridge on C.R. 225W over Sugar Creek, near Rock River Road, at 4:06 a.m. Thursday. There they found a woman’s body had been placed on the east side of the bridge. Information gathered from witnesses indicate the body was placed there between 1 a.m. and 4:06 a.m.

At 8 a.m., four hours after the initial dispatch, the Crawfordsville Police Department was contacted concerning a missing person. According to Chief Mike Norman, officers began their investigation and shortly thereafter made contact with the sheriff’s office, which had been working the scene of a body found. The local agencies believe the incidents are associated.

Assisting at the scene were members from the Crawfordsville Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Montgomery County Coroner.

No other information is being released at this time.
