Officers with the Crawfordsville Police Department responded at 2:25 a.m. Friday to a bomb threat at CVS, 106 E. Market St.
The threat was made via a phone call to the business, during which the caller initially demanded money and then threatened to detonate a bomb if police were contacted.
Officers quickly arrived on the scene, secured the area, and evacuated employees as a precaution. Traffic was also blocked in the vicinity.
The Tippecanoe County Bomb Squad was called in to conduct a thorough search of the building. No explosives or suspicious devices were found, and employees were permitted to return once the scene was cleared.
At this time, there are no ongoing safety concerns.
The incident is being investigated as a swatting call, but the case remains open. Swatting is defined as a malicious act where someone makes a false emergency call (like a bomb threat or active shooter situation) to a public safety agency, intending to trigger a deployment of a SWAT team or other emergency response units to a location where no actual emergency exists.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Geoff Payne at 765-362-3762, ext. 215.
The CPD also was assisted on scene by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Crawfordsville Fire Department.
