Crawfordsville Radio recognized by Ind. Broadcasters Association

Posted

In August, WCDQ-FM/WIMC-FM/WCVL AM, Crawfordsville radio was recognized by the Indiana Broadcasters Association. They received the 2021 IBA Cardinal Community Service Award for their partnership with the Youth Service Bureau Telethon held in May 2021.

The YSB was unable to hold their annual fundraising event, Dancing with the Montgomery County Stars this year and so planned alternate fundraising activities, including the Telethon.

“We went a little old school, doing a radio telethon,” said Karen Branch, executive director of the YSB. “Thanks to the partnership with Crawfordsville Radio, it was a tremendous success. Dave Peach and all of his staff were absolutely wonderful to work with. They went to extraordinary efforts to set up the event and work with us the day of the event. And they did it all at no cost to the YSB.  Thanks to their efforts we raised $34,000 from the event. This was a huge contribution to our fundraising budget. We also want to recognize Dianne Magstadt and Dave Long, our emcees for the day.”

The telethon featured youth talent from across the county, singers, musicians and more provided two hours of on-air entertainment. There were also interviews with YSB staff, volunteers and program participants.

“We reached so many people because of the listening audience for Crawfordsville Radio,” Branch said. “It helped spread the message about YSB programs and highlighted our youth doing amazing things.” The Youth Service Bureau relies on community support to continue to provide their 11 vital programs for youth in Montgomery County.
