Crawfordsville woman and her infant reported missing

A Crawfordsville man has reported his sister, 28-year-old Lindsey Cox, and her six-month-old son as missing.

Crawfordsville Police Chief Aaron Mattingly confirmed that a missing persons report has been filed for Lindsey Cox and there is an ongoing investigation. A report hasn’t been filed for her infant because CPD cannot confirm the child is missing.

Cox was last seen by her brother, Guy, around 8:30 a.m. Dec. 1 when she was leaving their residence to run an errand. Her car was found abandoned with a flat tire by a family friend.

Guy Cox said all she took with her that day was her son, diaper bag and car seat. All her belongings are still at their home.

Guy Cox believes his sister is in danger and was possibly taken by her on-again off-again boyfriend and father of her son, John Byrer.

Byrer has a criminal history and was arrested on charges of child stealing and assault and battery by strangulation in October in Oklahoma.

Mattingly said a family member confirmed earlier this month that Lindsey Cox was in Plymouth, Indiana. Her brother said the only person she knows there is Byrer’s sister and none of their family live in Plymouth.

CPD Officer Jared Colley later confirmed that the woman’s location in Plymouth was found by her phone being pinged on Dec. 2 and not by a family member.

Guy Cox also believes his sister could be in Oklahoma because she previously lived there with Byrer.

Broken Arrow Police Department in Oklahoma and the Plymouth Police Department in Indiana are also involved in the case.

As of Tuesday, CPD has received calls from a woman claiming to be Cox, but she refuses to go to a local police department to confirm her well-being.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crawfordsville Police Department at 765-362-3762.
