Cross procession slated for Wednesday

Posted

All area Christians are invited to participate in a cross procession in downtown Crawfordsville at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The procession will begin in the parking lot of the Crawfordsville District Public Library.

The occasion is the feast of the Elevation of the Cross, an ancient celebration of the finding of the original cross in the Holy Land by the Empress Helen in 327 A.D.

Christians all over the world take this occasion to gather in their communities and march with the cross lifted up as a public witness and celebration of Jesus Christ and His victory over sin, death and the devil through His salvific work on the cross.

Because of Christ, the cross, which had been a symbol of shame and humiliation, has become a universal symbol of love, hope and the triumph of good over evil.

The event is being organized by Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church.

People are invited to bring their own crosses and join in the procession.
