Curnutt breaks Wabash 3,000-Meter record at Indiana Fairgrounds

ANDERSON and INDIANAPOLIS — Wabash College senior Brayden Curnutt continued his record-setting indoor track and field efforts on Saturday by breaking the school record for the 3,000-meter run while winning the event at the Fairgrounds Invitational at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. The remainder of his Wabash teammates tied for third place in competing at the Anderson University Indoor Invitational.

Curnutt won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:22.22, outracing the field of 21 runners by more than a second. He eclipsed the former Wabash record of 8:27.18 held by Nick Boyce and set in 2015. Curnutt broke the Wabash 5,000-meter record nearly one month ago at North Central College. He currently ranks ninth among all Division III performances this season with his time of 14:24.55.

Will Neubauer scored a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the Fairgrounds meet by completing the race in a season-best time of 1:55.29. David Adesanya finished seventh with a time of 1:55.47

Wabash scored 92 points to tie with Franklin College for third place at the Anderson Invite on Saturday. Rose-Hulman won the invitational with 113 points, followed by Hanover in second place with 104 points.

Freshman Sawyer Lewis turned in a personal-best time of 1:59.42 to earn a second-place finish in the 800-meter run. Ethan Fleischhauer added a personal-best effort of 2:03.58 to finish in fourth place. The foursome of Owen Smith, Christopher Royal, Lewis, and Morgyn Clark raced to second place in the 4x400-meter relay, combining for a time of 3:30.52.

Sly Williams finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.73 meters (22 feet, 1 inch). Wyatt Dorsey added an eighth-place finish with his mark of 6.00 meters (19 feet, 8.25 inches). Williams also earned a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash finals by posting a time of 7.14

Quinn Sholar placed second in the shot put with a toss of 14.72 meters (48 feet, 3.5 inches). Evan Furuness added a third-place finish in the shot with a personal-best mark of 14.57 meters (47 feet, 9.75 inches). Sholar also placed fourth in the weight throw with his effort of 15.62 meters (51 feet, 3 inches). Will Boas finished in seventh place (14.78 meters; 48 feet, 6 inches). Lane Brockman finished in eighth place (14.76 meters; 48 feet, 5.25 inches).

Kannon Chase picked up a third-place finish in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches). Clark added a fourth-place finish with a height of 1.85 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches). Hugh Ford scored a third-place finish in the pole vault by topping out at 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9.25 inches) to match his career-best mark. Nate Joven finished in fourth place by matching the height of 4.20 meters.

Mike Holsclaw finished in third place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.26 meters (40 feet, 2.75 inches).

Royal placed fifth in the 400-meter dash by finishing in 53.80. Jack Huisden scored a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.10.
