Damon Howard Hamm, 86, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Jan. 28, 1934, at Kokomo, and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1952. He married Beverly “Patty” Henderson the following the year.

Damon achieved a 50-year Golden Eagle status for the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He was an Army veteran.

Damon owned and operated the Uptown Bar, managed the Crawfordsville Country Club, was the manager of the Crawfordsville Eagles, but his greatest accomplishment was constructing and operating Turkey Run Golf Course.

Damon and his twin brother Ramon, while picking corn in a field in Parke County, envisioned a golf course.

Damon, who outdrove everyone on the tee, shot his age in golf many times for several years, had a card playing obsession, and loved his wife Patty (aka Mamaw) more than anyone else until his dying breath, will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patty; parents Bryon and Opal (Dickens) Hamm; and his siblings, Velma Ritter, Marjorie Vaughn, Byron Hamm and Ramon Hamm.

Damon is survived by his children, Dawn (Chris) Hall, Crawfordsville, Scott Hamm, Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, and Kelly (Rob) Carey, Crawfordsville; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Mary) Hamm, Ashley (Sean) Walden, Nic (Alyssa) Hamm, Brittney (Kyle) Archer, Shannon Hall, Kaitlyn Sulc and Shelby (Morgan) Hauer. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Jordan and Keagan Archer; Lola, Frank and Vayda Hamm; Camille, Jordyn and Iyana Walden; and Hazel and James Hamm.

There will be a celebration of life for Damon from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Christ Lutheran Church Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to CCC Children Charities, 3272 W. Country Club Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933 or a charity of their choice.
