Darrell J. Lewis, 72, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 19, 2025.

Born in Crawfordsville in 1952, Darrell was the son of John D. and Sarah Evelyn Lewis. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1971 and embarked on a successful career as a Machinist at RR Donnelly, where he dedicated many years of service before retiring.

Darrell was a man of many talents and a generous spirit. He possessed remarkable creative ingenuity, always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends. His passions were deeply rooted in the outdoors, where he found solace in hunting, fishing, and exploring nature’s beauty. He was a skilled craftsman, honing his talents in woodcarving, gunsmithing, and the ancient art of flint-knapping.

Darrell will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering kindness, and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. He cherished his role as a devoted father and grandfather, finding immense joy in spending time with his beloved grandson.

He is survived by his son, Landon Lewis, his son’s spouse Jessica Lewis, and grandchildren, Nico Lewis, Judah Scaletta, and Lucia Scaletta; his sister, Barbara (Cecil) Chandler; and numerous cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Sarah Evelyn Lewis; his brothers, Ralph Lewis and James Lewis; and his sister, Phyllis Rauch.

In accordance with Darrell’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Wildlife Federation (https://indianawildlife.org/membership/donate/) in honor of Darrell’s love for the outdoors.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, medical professionals, and especially the family members who provided exceptional support and comfort to Darrell during his journey.
