Dates set for Forman fundraisers

The dates have been set for separate fundraisers benefiting Darren Forman, a long-time firefighter and community paramedic with the Crawfordsville Fire Department who also serves as Montgomery County Coroner and as Chief of Coal Creek Volunteer Fire.

Forman will celebrate 20 years with CFD next month. He was off duty when he was seriously injured in an accident July 7. He was recently transferred from an Indianapolis hospital for further rehab and recovery in Lafayette.

Walnut Township Volunteer Fire will have a Papa John’s Pizza trailer at Walnut Elementary School from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Proceeds will help cover medical expenses associated with the accident.

Another fundraiser event will be 1-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Tremaine Park in Waynetown. The event will include a band, cornhole tournament, a Henry rifle raffle and activities for kids. A bike ride will be held prior to the event, ending at the park in Waynetown.

The fundraiser, which will also help with medical expenses, is being organized by Waynetown Volunteer Fire, Coal Creek Volunteer Fire and HIM Hogs in Ministry in conjunction other area departments. Further details will be posted on the “Fundraiser for Darren Forman” Facebook page as they become available. Contributions may also be sent to the Waynetown Fire Department, P.O. Box 96, Waynetown, IN 47990. Please mark contributions as “Forman.”

Forman was awarded Paramedic Hero of the Year in May of 2019 from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Indiana Fire Chief’s Association. He received the Child Safety Advocate Award in June 2019 from the Indiana University School of Medicine Automotive Safety Program. In 2016, he was recognized by the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau for Excellence in Service.
