The Montgomery County chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a national society of women educators, awarded scholarships to the following high school students who will be attending college to study education: Olivia Olin, Southmont High School; Sierran (Gracie) Chapman, North Montgomery High School; Georgia Kincaid, Crawfordsville High School.
Funds for these awards are from the chapter’s Helen Allhands Scholarship Fund. Allhands was a long-time Montgomery County elementary teacher who was dedicated to education and professional development for educators. In 2005 her husband established a trust in her honor to continue to promote those goals for Montgomery County graduates and educators. Allhands was a charter member of the Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and international educators organization. This group is responsible for the administration of the trust. An award of $1,000 is given to an outstanding senior from each of the Montgomery County high school who will be pursuing a degree in the field of education. This is a renewable award for each of the students undergraduate years.
