The Iota Chapter of Delta Gamma Society recently met to celebrate those awarded grants and scholarships in our community. This society of educators is responsible for the administration of a trust set up in honor of Helen Hays Allhands. Helen was a longtime Montgomery County elementary teacher and was dedicated to the education and professional development of educators. In 2005, her husband established a trust in her honor to continue the promotion of these goals for Montgomery County graduates and educators. These awards are available to outstanding seniors and educators from Montgomery County each year.
This year’s recipients included Tracie Woodall (North), Marlin Williams (South), Teagan Bacon (South), Dara Watson (South), Megan Scheidler (South), Jenna Plemons (Crawfordsville) and Annabelle Laskowski who are currently pursing a degree in education. Educational grants for on-going pursuits included Margaret Bryan, who recently completed a masters degree in English and Mary Lou Dawald, who attended a summer art teacher retreat. Additionally, Maryam Gilbert (North) received a grant to assist in completion of student teaching in Special Education.
The IOTA Chapter was pleased to recognize these recipients at their June meeting.
