A shooting Friday morning on the city’s south side remains under investigation by the Crawfordsville Police Department, and information concerning the incident is slowly being released.

Shattered windows, a slew of bullet holes and signs of widespread damage were still apparent at 10 a.m. Friday as civilians were seen removing debris from the El Frijol Tire building and parking lot at 1000 S. Ladoga Road.

Crawfordsville officers were initially dispatched at about 5 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of shots fired near the tire shop.

Police Chief Mike Norman said the suspect is still at-large and considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities are using surveillance video from the area to create a description.

No injuries have been reported related to the incident.

Sue Moody, owner and operator of Sunflower Natural Foods located across Ladoga Road from the damaged tire shop, lives above her shop and said she awoke to sounds of gunfire Friday morning.

“Somebody must have been setting off some firecrackers — that’s all I thought it was,” Moody said. “I jumped up and looked out all my windows but I did not see a thing.”

Neighbors came to check on her, she said, and a Sunflower shop employee said she could hear the shots from her Meridian Street home.

“Somebody was having fun; nobody was there,” Moody speculated. “(The owners) had five windows and a door shot out. They at least have it boarded up now; bless their hearts.”

Civilians clearing the scene of debris said the shop was vacant at the time of the shooting, though official confirmation is forthcoming. It also was mentioned that a passenger vehicle’s rear window had been shattered.

The owner of the building, which also houses Tienda Mexicana, Voluntad de Dios and Mexican Market, is listed as Guevera Milton. Attempts to contact Milton were unsuccessful.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
