Donald Carrell, 89, of Wingate passed away at 9:47 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. He had been in failing health the past year. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Montgomery County, to the late Leslie and Ida Alice Tate Carrell. Don married Beverly J. Ellingwood in her parent’s home, Dec. 21, 1951. She preceded him in death Dec. 5, 2018.

Don was a 1950 graduate of Alamo High School and enlisted with the US Army, serving two years overseas during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he began working at Mid-States Steel & Wire in Crawfordsville. During that time he took supervisory classes at Purdue University. He was employed for 30 years with 22 years in supervision. He then was employed as a sheet metal worker by Purdue University. He was elected Clerk/Treasurer for the Town of Wingate two terms and served as a Post Commander of former Wingate American Legion Post 974 and attended New Hope Chapel. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, woodworking, gardening and playing euchre.

Surviving are: daughter Patricia Brown of Olympia, Washington; three sons, Michael L. (Kathy) Carrell of rural Waynetown, Kenneth (Deb) Carrell of Noblesville and Dennis (Barbara) Carrell of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Beverly; son Daniel; sister Maxine; brothers Robert, Richard and Warren; and grandson Adam Carrell.

Don’s final wishes were to not endanger anyone’s health and forgo a public visitation. Private family services are planned at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with public graveside services at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4 in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Attendees are to wear masks and social distance.
