Don was born in the one room log cabin now on display at the Johnson County park on the north side of Camp Atterbury. He was the youngest son born to Waller “Clayton” Sturgeon and Sarah “Etta” Ward Sturgeon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eunice (age 7) and Evanell Trow of Bow, New Hampshire; son Mark Sturgeon Chambers; and grandson Jason Chambers.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Miller Sturgeon of 63 years; brothers, Kenneth of New Mexico and Hulan of Silverville, Indiana; son Clint of Cataract, Indiana; and grandchildren, Megan of Indian Hills, Colorado, Colin of Cataract and Corey of Buffalo New York.

Don served our country with honor and distinction in the 332nd Army Transportation Company in Stuttgart Germany 1960-1962 and Reserve until 1967.

Don came to Wallace, Indiana, in 1956 to live and work with his uncle Claude Ward and cousins, Harlan, Bane and Orville Ward. He met Carolyn there and they married Aug. 12, 1958. They lived a number of places in Fountain and Montgomery counties before settling near New Market from 1967-1987; moved to Kokomo 1987-2005; and retired to Lafayette in 2005.

Don was passionate about driving trucks, which he did from 1955-1977; which he traded in for a career in real estate.

There will be a celebration of life and a 50-year Sturgeon/Ward reunion at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Crawfordsville on May 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All friends and family welcome; lunch pitch in at noon.
