Dust control program sign up begins today

Residents will begin signing up today for this year’s dust control program.

The program is available to residents with properties on unpaved roads. The Montgomery County Highway Department sprays dust suppression on the gravel, paying half of the cost for up to 600 feet of material. Participating residents are billed for the rest.

The cost is $263 for 300 feet of dust control and $526 for 600 feet. Residents will be billed in full for any additional material.

Deadline to sign up is March 15. Payment must be received by April 1 and can be made to the county treasurer’s office by mail or in person.

Crews plan to begin spraying around May 4, weather-permitting, county highway director Jeremy Phillips said.

The county is not offering calcium chloride. Roads not maintained by the highway department are not eligible for the program. Crews cannot spray in front of a neighbor’s property without permission from the neighbor.

All dust control is subject to repair and will be turned over for the winter beginning on or after Nov. 1.
