Taylor Dyson has been tabbed as the new coach of the North Montgomery volleyball team for the 2022 season as she replaces Whitney Hutson.
A season ago the Chargers went 8-15. However that year started with North Montgomery dropping its first seven games of the season so in their last 16 games the Chargers played .500 volleyball.
In her first season at the helm, Dyson is stressing the importance of building a team and laying the foundation for future success.
“That’s really what my assistants and I are focusing on this year,” she said. “We want to build a foundation for this program and just learn how to compete. We are working hard in the gym on the fundamentals & team building. We have several girls stepping up as leaders. We want to get better week to week so that we can be at our peak competitively come tourney time. I’m very thankful for the opportunity from North Montgomery and I’m excited to start my first season as head coach.”
North Montgomery did graduate six seniors from last season’s team including their top three in kills in Trinity Schroeder, Ashlynn Anderson and Carlie DeSmet. Madi Welch, the teams leader in assists also graduated. However the Chargers do return 6’3 McKenzie Schroeder for her senior year as well as fellow senior Rylie Gayler. Bella Mattingly and Elizabeth Cain also will be seniors and will be expected to contribute in a big way as Dyson notes.
“This group of seniors has me really excited,” Dyson said. “I’m looking forward to seeing this group lead the team, they’ve shown so much leadership in our preseason already.”
The Chargers will open up the season next Tuesday when they host Covington. Clinton Prairie will visit the Chargers on Thursday before North completes their first week of the regular season next Saturday by competing in the North Putnam invitational.
