Ella Mae Harvey of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon May 9, 2021, at Franciscan Health North, Lafayette, at the age of 84.

She was born Feb. 4, 1937, at the former Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, to Clyde and Beatrice Norvell. She was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church.

Ella Mae is survived by three children, daughter Gloria Thornton and son Lorenzo Norvell, both of Crawfordsville, and daughter Evelyn Stout of Hamilton, Ohio; sister Rosey Bea Blakemore of Lafayette; brother Ronald Jerry Norvell of Crawfordsville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Lottie Norvell; brother Robert Norvell; and son Kenneth Norvell.

Ella Mae attended Horace Mann School for grade and high school in Crawfordsville. She later joined the Household of Ruth — a women’s mutual aid organization of which she was a member for many years.

While she was born in and spent most of her life in Crawfordsville, she also lived for a time in Louisville, Kentucky; and both Franklin and Logansport, Indiana. Ella Mae was employed locally by RR Donnelly’s.

She loved to skate, dance and she enjoyed time with her family — all of whom were sports enthusiasts. You could always find Ella Mae watching sports on TV,  especially football, basketball and baseball. Her favorite teams were the Indianapolis Colts in football, the Indiana Pacers in basketball and the Cincinnati Reds in baseball.

Visitation and viewing will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Her service will commence there immediately afterward at 2 p.m., led by Pastor Kenneth Wilson. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will follow the services.

Following state and federal mandates, face coverings will be optional for those in attendance.
