The Butler Summer Institute awarded Abigail Eutsler of Linden a $4,000 stipend to study Pre-Menstrual Vocal Syndrome (PMVS) impacts on vocal production across different age ranges. Students participating in the nine-week Summer Research Intensive pursue research questions, contribute to scholarly conversations, and produce creative works while being mentored by faculty members and supported by a peer community of student researchers and artists. Choral Music Education Professor Dr. Becky Marsh is serving as her faculty mentor.
For the fourth time, Eutsler was also named an Indiana Scholar of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, Free and Accepted Masons. The award will be presented during a reception at the Indianapolis Scottish Rite Cathedral in July. She is beginning the final year of the five-year Bachelor of Music Education degree, majoring in choral music education and vocal performance. She was placed on the Jordan College of the Arts Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester.
Eutsler will student teach during the fall semester at Pike Township Metropolitan School District’s New August Public Academy South and Franklin Community High School. She is a past recipient of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association Foundation statewide scholarship
A past president of the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity Zeta chapter, Eutsler served on the JCA Student Advisory Board, a member of the Butler President’s Club, and a member of the Honors Program. She completed internships with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and is currently the ISC Administrative Assistant. She is also a Teaching Artist in the Butler Community Arts School and taught choir at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation in its Religious School.
Eutsler studies privately with Dr. Oliver Worthington, Butler University’s Voice Area Coordinator and the Producing Director of Butler Opera Theatre. She is a member of the University Chorale and was a soloist with the Butler Symphony Orchestra in December. She performed on tour throughout Brazil, South America with members of the Chorale and Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. She also performed with the Chorale and ISC during the world premiere of “Toward A Secret Sky” with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis.
A two-time recipient of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite national Abbott Scholarship, Eutsler is also a two-time recipient of the Woman’s Department Club of Indianapolis Music Merit Award Scholarship. She also received the Efroymson Prize for Diversity in Vocal Performance during her freshman year, from which she donated a portion of the prize money to the School of Music to acquire more diverse repertoire for its music library and to assemble a group of diverse classical musicians from the Indianapolis area to perform and dialogue with Butler students. Upon donating, she asserted, “We can talk about racism in classical music, the lack of diversity in the canon, and the problem composers all day long, but words are nothing without actions to back them up.”
