Father Christopher Shocklee, the priest at Saint Bernards Catholic Church, was recently presented with the Saint George Award by John Sockrider, representing the Diocesan Committee on Scouting. Shocklee, who is being transferred to Kokomo to lead the Saint Patrick and the Joan of Arc Churches, received the award Sunday during a going away party
The National Catholic Committee on Scouting, acting through the local diocese, may award the St. George emblem to members of the laity and clergy, Scouters and non-scouters alike, who have made significant and outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youths through Scouting. The St. George is the highest award the Diocese can bestow on an individual for involvement and support of youth in the programs of the BSA. This year, the Diocese of Lafayette chose to present one Saint George Award.
Shocklee is an Eagle Scout and he has continued to serve Scouting. He has spent his vacation each summer as the chaplin and aquatics staff member at Boy Scout Camp Ransburg.
