FB Preview: Chargers look to tame high powered Bruins

North Montgomery is coming off it’s most impressive and dominating performance of the season last Friday when they man-handled county rival Crawfordsville 44-7. Through six week the Chargers are 3-3 (1-3 SAC) on the season and this week they hit the road as they travel to Lizton to take on Tri-West (4-2, 3-1 SAC). The Bruins are coming off their first SAC loss of the season as they dropped last week’s game to Lebanon 21-14.

“Our kids have a had a great week of practice and are ready for the challenge that lies in front of them,” Charger coach Josh Thompson said. “Tri-West has traditionally been a very good football team and our guys know that and this gives us a chance to show up against a good team and prove we can put a complete football game together.”

The Bruins come in ranked No. 10 in Class 3A and are led by senior quarterback Ty Owens who has thrown for 1,238 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 60% of his passes. Junior wide-outs Noah Lien and Cole Morgan are Owens’ top two targets as Lien lead the Bruins with 388 yards on 35 catches while Morgan has caught 22 balls for 306 yards.

A week ago against the Athenians, North Montgoemry was able to dominate the game in all three phases as they scored on offense, defense and special teams. The Charger defense will have their toughest test to date but aren’t going to back down from the challenge of what lies ahead.

The message from Thompson to his team these last few weeks is to come into every game they play with confidence that they can compete. It’s a message than has rang loud and clear for the Chargers so far this season as they’ve shown they can hang with some of the SAC’s best.

“The kids have to believe going into a game that they can go toe-to-toe with that team,” Thompson said. “Our guys have done a good job of that this week and have showed great effort and intensity that we want. All of that has to carry over to Friday night and ultimately put it together for four quarters.”

Tri-West and the Chargers will get things going at 7 p.m. on Friday and you can catch a live broadcast of the game on WIMC Thunder 103.9 with Jared McMurry and Eric Danforth beginning at 6:30.
