Fill the Boot one day, one location this year

Posted

Members of the Crawfordsville Fire Department are gearing up for its annual Fill the Boot campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This year will be a one-day fundraising event at one location on the south side of town.

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety on Wednesday approved a request from Seth McCloud for CFD firefighters to collect donations at the Purple Heart Parkway and South Washington Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24.

Funds from the Fill the Boot campaign help save and improve the lives of those fighting the disease in the Crawfordsville area. Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and related diseases severely limit people’s ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.

Last year more than 100,000 firefighters across the country participated in Fill the Boot events and raised $20 million.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Mike Armstrong of Dotlich Contractors to close Phil Ward Boulevard to install a water tie-in point for the new American Flow Control location at the Crawfordsville Commerce Park. It will be a one-day closure with the date still to be determined.

• Approved a revised 2020 patrol holiday schedule for the Crawfordsville Police Department.

• Gave approval for a payment of $611 and $1,494 to Butler, Fairman & Seufert for wastewater treatment plant work.

• Accepted a quote of $5,000 from Boyce for new software for the accounting system for the clerk-treasurer’s office.
