Floyd Franklin Whitaker, 83, of Crawfordsville passed away Nov. 1, 2024, at his home.
Frank, as he was known by his friends and family, was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Indianapolis, to Floyd Martin and Doris June McCloud Whitaker. He attended Southmont High School before attaining his GED.
He later went on to proudly serve his country in the Army between 1957-1960. His military career meant a lot to him and he was so proud to be a part of the Army. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Fort Dix military base and met Elvis Presley himself. The two played a game of pool. When asked if he beat him, he would say, “It’s my story of course I did.”
On Dec. 30, 1986, Frank married Carole J. Ingram. She preceded him in death May 9, 2017.
From most of Frank’s working life he worked in numerous factories including Raybestos and Allison. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Frank enjoyed woodworking and always had time to watch a Pacers game or law shows.
Surviving family includes: son Jeffrey Whitaker; daughter Kristina Whitaker; grandchildren, Patience, Haley, Michael, Krista, Felicity (Jason) and Blaze; and 12 great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Cary, Kyle and Mike (Mariah); seven step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and 15 half-brothers and half-sisters.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carole; step-son John Alan Kiger; and step-daughter Debbie Griffin.
Visitation for Frank will be at Burkhart Funeral home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. Frank will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
