Heading into halftime, Southmont and Frankfort were all tied up at 6-6. However things quickly changed once the third quarter began. The Hotdogs returned the second half kickoff all the way to the Mountie 20 yard line and that set the tone in what was a second half to forget for the Mounties as Frankfort picked up a 40-22 win.
On their first drive of the game the Mounties (1-2, 0-2 SAC) marched right down the field and were able to get on the board as sophomore quarterback Nick Scott found Brady Boller wide open for a 1-yard score. That was all the points the Mounties would score until the 4:39 mark of the fourth quarter where freshman Nolan Boyer ran in. Boyer would find the endzone again with 56 seconds left in the game.
The Hotdogs were able to run all over the Mounties as junior running back Riley Goodnight who came into Friday’s night’s game leading the Sagamore Conference in rushing scored three rushing touchdowns in the game. Junior quarterback Sam Michael ended with two touchdowns both on the ground and through the air.
“It simply comes down to we just have to get better at all levels,” Southmont coach Desson Hannum said. “We didn’t come out and match their intensity and energy. We must play with more energy and determination if we want to get back on the winning track.”
The Mounties will look to get back on track next week as they gear up for another county rivalry game against the Crawfordsville Athenians (0-4, 0-2 SAC).
“Next week we have to come out with that energy, especially since it’s a county rival,” Hannum said. “We saw glimpses of it tonight, but just have to be all around more consistent.”
