Foy shuts down CHS offense with gem on the mound

Still in search of the their first win of the season, Crawfordsville softball hosted Living Water Homeschool on Friday night. Senior pitcher Mady Foy for the Marlins would make sure that CHS would have to wait at least one more game for that first win as she and her blazing fastball kept the Athenian bats at bay as Crawfordsville would fall 12-0 in five innings.

Foy pitched a complete game and 12 of the 15 outs were recorded via the strikeout and she only surrendered three Athenian hits.

“She was probably one of the best pitchers we’ve seen this year,” Athenian coach Brad Clark said of Foy. “Our girls were telling me that she had a lot of movement with her rise ball and she just threw it really well tonight. I thought if we could’ve gotten through the lineup a couple of more times, we might have been able to time her up better. We started to make some contact but just have to find ways to get runners on base and be able to manufacture some runs.”

The three Athenian hits came from Olivia Reed, Brooklyn Mills, and Jessica Tribble. As much as the Marlins did put the ball in play, until the ladder part of the game CHS was fielding the ball nicely and committed just a single error. However two errors in the final two innings allowed the Marlins to extend their lead. Overall though, Clark was pleased with how when his defense was tested, they came through more often then not.

“We made the routine plays like we should tonight and that was nice to see,” Clark said. “I thought Olivia had a great night at third and when we can make plays behind our pitcher, we’ll start to stay in more games and be more competitive. We just try to stay working hard every day and know that good things will happen if we do just that.”

The Marlins improve to 7-4 on the season with the win and were able to score three runs in the first and fourth innings, a single run in the third and were able to put the Athenians away for good by scoring five in the fifth.

Foy also got it done at the plate by collecting three hits and an RBI, Macy Cline, Elana Robertson, Riley Lewis, and Maddie Pardue all had two hits a piece with Lewis leading in the RBI category with three.

Crawfordsville falls to 0-14 on the year with the loss and will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon with an afternoon contest at Covington. The Athenians and Trojans are set for an 11 am first pitch.
