Letter: Frey a key component to county’s growth

Posted

I would like to take this opportunity to detail why I endorse John Frey for Montgomery County Commissioner.

I have worked on a regular basis with Frey on the Montgomery County Redevelopment Commission and I have seen first-hand the positive impact he has had on our county.

Over the past several years, the MCRDC has been responsible for projects that are critical for Montgomery County’s continued progress and economic development. The MCRDC cannot achieve our goals alone. We must have the support of elected officials. Since he has taken office as commissioner almost four years ago, I know the MCRDC, and Montgomery County as a whole, has had a champion in Frey.

He has been a key component of the MCRDC. He continually educates himself on, among other things, the many aspects of obtaining and utilizing state and federal funds to support activities in Montgomery County. Frey makes sure no rock is left unturned when searching for outside resources which will improve the lives of Montgomery County citizens.

He has been instrumental in helping the citizens of Montgomery County identify their vision for the future of the county and he has ensured the MCRDC plays its role in delivering on the community’s vision. Whether it is attracting new private investment to help keep local taxes low, attracting new, high paying jobs or expanding our public services, Frey understands what it takes to responsibly and sustainably grow our community.

Frey assisted in acquiring outside funds for a Precision Agriculture Initiative utilizing the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network, Indiana West Advantage, Bane Welker and IvyTech.

This initiative will recruit students and grow enrollment in precision ag degree programs at Ivy Tech to 20 students in the next two years. Additionally, it will establish five precision ag scholarships at Ivy Tech Lafayette.

All at no cost to the taxpayer.

Frey knows delivering success for Montgomery County requires a strong team. That is why he has been committed to assembling the highest quality county staff and outside consulting expertise to ensure the best ideas and strategies are brought to the table. Frey knows, for the commissioners to make wise decisions; they must seek out the best information and advice. No matter where he goes, or who he talks to, citizens can rest assured they have a bold advocate for their county’s interests in Frey.

Not only does Frey demonstrate good judgment and common sense in his role as a commissioner, but he also isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves, get his hands dirty and get the job done. There are few public servants who work as tirelessly for their constituents as Frey.

If you, like me, want to see a future of economic growth and prosperity in Montgomery County, I ask you to please join me in voting for Frey.
