George F. Borders, 74, of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at St. Vincent Seton Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born May 29, 1945, at Richmond, Indiana, to the late Carl and Virginia (Butcher) Borders.

George graduated from Mentone High School in 1963 and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963-1966 and was stationed in Germany reaching rank of Sargent E5. George was a contractor most of his working years, building apartment complexes, homes, and was a roofing expert.

On Oct. 17, 1984, he married the love of his life, Judith, whom he referred to as his “Babydoll,” she survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Jeff Borders and Brian Borders, both of Crawfordsville; three step-children, Jennifer (Tim) Matthews of Walker, Louisiana, and Jeffery Wayne (Rochelle) Turner and Amy (Bobby) Killmon, both of Indianapolis; two sisters, Neva Sexton of Syracuse, Indiana, and Avenell Borders of North Manchester, Indiana; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Saige.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Roberts.

George loved to attend church and was such a good song leader. He always had a smile on his face and loved to be a door-greeter at church. He loved to speak about the Lord at nursing homes where he and his wife, Judy, would sing gospel songs. He loved people. He loved to reminisce and laugh talking with his two sisters about their lives growing up. He loved to talk to people and never saw a stranger. Judy told him he was a “politician” and she was his “press secretary”!

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at New Life Apostolic Church, 1434 Darlington Ave., Crawfordsville, officiated by Pastor Terry Gobin and the Rev. Bobby Killmon. Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big 4 Arch Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
