George Henry Snyder, 80, of Crawfordsville, and formerly of Woodbury, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020.

He was born May 22, 1940, at Altoona, Pennsylvania, son of the late George W. and Pauline V. (Johnson) Snyder. On Aug. 6, 1964, at Naperville, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Carol J. (Ricketts) Snyder, who survives.

George was a graduate of Altoona High School Class of 1958; received his bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and religion in 1963 from McPherson College in Kansas; and his master’s of divinity from Ashland Theological Seminary in 1970. A minister for over 50 years, George served as pastor for 11 Church of the Brethren congregations in four states. In Indiana, he served Union Center Church in Nappanee; in West Virginia, Pleasant View in Fayetteville; in Ohio, Olivet in Thornville, Owl Creek in Bellville and Painter Creek in Arcanum; in Pennsylvania, Upper and Lower Claar Churches in Claysburg, Roxbury in Johnstown; West York in York, Newport, New Enterprise, and Lower Snake Spring Valley in Everett.

George was also a licensed HVAC technician and enjoyed driving school bus. He loved spending time with family, relationships with people, and the smiles of the children who rode his bus. His hobbies included cars, hunting, flowers, and he was a member of the Rotary, the 11 and 7 Rod and Gun Club and the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren.

He was preceded in death by son Kevin G. Snyder and brother Gerald C. Snyder.

Surviving are wife Carol J. Snyder; daughter Laurale Royer and husband Ed of Waveland; son Loren Snyder and wife Meggan (Mcllravy) of Platte City, Missouri; grandchildren, Andrew A. Royer, Rachel B. Royer, Landon M. Snyder, Weston B. Snyder, Haydon G. Snyder, Eleanor J. Fanning, Drew A. Fanning, Morgan G. Snyder and Graydon J. Snyder; as well as Valerie Fanning (formerly Snyder) widow of son Kevin and her husband Joe of Wamego, Kansas.

Friends will be received 9-10 a.m. Saturday, July 11. At 10 a.m., a funeral service will take place with pastors Marlys Hershberger and David Grimes officiating. All of the above will be held at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren in New Enterprise, Pennsylvania. Interment will be in Alto-Reste Park; Altoona, Pennsylvania.
