GIRLS TENNIS PREVIEW: Athenians have returning experience

Posted

Between three varsity players back from 2019, and a handful of juniors that played junior-varsity as freshmen, Crawfordsville tennis coach Jeff Strickland is excited about the potential for the upcoming season.

“This team is one of the most focused I have coached,” he said. “I think losing last season has made us all want to make the most of this one. There is a new realization of what a privilege it is to get on these courts day after day. I love the energy we have as a team right now.”

Crawfordsville returns experience in seniors Hannah McLean and Lauren Hale and junior Cathleen McGrady.

“Hannah McLean, Lauren Hale, and Cathleen McGrady all have a great deal of experience at the varsity level,” Strickland said. “It has been encouraging to see how well they have taken the reins of leading this team and how hard they are working to make our whole team better each day. They are the types of players that every coach wants on their team.”

Strickland says they are also excited about the improvement shown in juniors Ella Hudson, Lilly Klingbeil, and Reese Minnette. Sophomores Ali Brown, Olivia Fichter and Elyse Widmer, along with freshman Sam Rohr are expected to compete for varsity spots.

Crawfordsville opens the season on Tuesday, April 6 at West Lafayette.

“I love the quiet resolve and work ethic of this team; they are eager to work hard and work well to get better,” Strickland said. “It is also exciting to observe our team chemistry and unity increasing by the day.”
