God's Good News For Today

God is our cornerstone

Posted

This Monday we celebrate Memorial Day to remember and honor the military personnel who died while serving our country in the Armed Forces. I think we should also remember the police officers, firefighters and first responders who have given their lives protecting and caring for us all.

We have been blessed to live in America, and I hope we remember the special nation we live in. In 1835, the French historian, Alex de Tocqueville, traveled America as it was developing as a nation. He wrote down his observations in his work, “Democracy in America.” This classic book gives amazing insights into what made America a success. We firmly believed the primary reason was that America was founded on Christian principles.

Here is his description:

“I have known of societies formed by Americans to send out ministers of the gospel into the new western states to found schools and churches there, lest religion should be suffered to die away in those remote settlements, and the rising states be less fitted to enjoy free institutions than the people from which they emanated. I met wealthy New Englanders who abandoned the country in which they were born in order to lay the foundation of Christianity and of freedom on the banks of the Missouri or in the prairies of Illinois.”

May we truly remember and be thankful for those who paid the price for our liberty and freedom. Let us be sure to thank the Lord God for his sovereign hand in our country’s development, growth and protections. So many today reject Him and His truth about Jesus Christ, our Savior. Pray He will not remove His hand of grace, mercy, protection and provision. May we once again strongly stand on the cornerstone of His truth.

Jesus said unto them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures; ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes?’” (Matthew 21:42).

He is still our cornerstone!
