For the first time a full array of golf instruction services is available to the general public in western Indiana and eastern Illinois. PGA Tour instructor Sam Foley is introducing his 5 Star Golf Academy at two locations — Rivercrest Golf Club in Covington and at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
Foley brings 42 years of golf instruction experience to the area and touts his unique 5 Star instructional series as a differentiator from other golf instruction programs. Foley, originally from Veedersburg, wants to share his insights with golfers from Illiana area.
“I want to pass on what I’ve learned to golfers and aspiring golfers,” Foley said. “Covid energized the general interest in golf and I realized that the area wasn’t being served as well as it could be so I decided to return ‘home’ to make a difference.”
Junior golf is a priority for Foley and he has recently agreed to coach the Fountain Central boys golf team.
“The future of golf lies with the youth so what better way to become involved,” Foley said.
The academy has a full array of program for juniors, seniors, women and beginners as well as for the seasoned golfer looking to shave a few strokes off their score.
“To be able to launch the 5 Star Golf Academy at two of the areas best golf courses is really incredible,” Foley said. “Rivercrest Golf Club has served the Illiana market well for over 25 years and is really a tremendous value. I’ve been in the Indianapolis market for 25 years and comparably Rivercrest is an unbelievable bargain and its always in great shape.”
Crawfordsville Country Club is the second oldest country club in Indiana and was founded in 1906, yet it has never had a full-time teaching professional, Foley is the first.
“Having my academy at such a historic venue is really a privilege,” Foley said.
What is also new is that C.C.C is now open to the public. Memberships are still available complete with full access to the club and all of it’s amenities, but the public is now welcome to play golf or enjoy the restaurant simply by making a tee time or a dinner reservation.
