Grace I. Holt Irvin, 98, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.

Grace was born June 23, 1922, at home in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Thomas and Odessa Neal Holt. She married Leon Irvin on Dec. 24, 1941, in Montgomery County. He preceded her in death March 17, 1995.

Grace was a 1940 graduate of Waynetown High School and was a life resident of Montgomery County, except for two years in Cape Cod, where her husband was stationed with the military. Grace was a homemaker and farm wife. She could and did operate farm equipment, and was always in the mix on the farm. She tended a large garden and canned vegetables and fruits she raised. She had been an active member of the former Elmdale Community Church and the Elmdale Women’s Society. Currently she belonged the New Hope Chapel in Wingate. She was a resident of Hickory Creek the past five years, moving there from the farm.

Grace always kept busy … she loved to make homemade pies. Not just delicious pies, but “picture pretty pies,” all from scratch, using seasonal fruits. A specialty was making Christmas candies. Each year she looked forward to joining Jack and Susie with their concessions at ‘Hoosier Beef Congress. She had a concession with her Christmas candies and would sell out each year. She also enjoyed refinishing furniture
