The Wabash College track and field team spent the final weekend before the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, competing at two different meets on Saturday. A handful of Little Giants competed at the non-scoring Olivet Nazarene University Invitational. Four mid-distance and distance runners competed against a field of mostly NCAA Division I runners at the Grand Valley State University Extra Weekend Meet in Michigan.
Owen Smith turned in a personal-best time with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the Olivet Nazarene meet, finishing in 56.29. Jack Huisden finished in seventh place at 1:00.42. Noah Villalon crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 1:04.47 to finish eighth overall.
Lane Brockman placed third in the hammer throw with his personal-best toss of 50.39 meters (165 feet, 4 inches). Will Boas turned in a top throw of 47.83 meters (156 feet, 11 inches) to earn sixth place overall.
Ryan Adams finished in third place in the pole vault after clearing 3.45 meters (11 feet, 3.75 inches).
Evan Furuness picked up a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.07 meters (46 feet, 2 inches). Jakob Van Pelt scored a personal-best mark with a throw of 13.90 meters (45 feet, 7.25 inches) to place fifth. Furuness also earned a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with a top mark of 41.13 meters (134 feet, 11 inches). Van Pelt added an eighth-place finish with his throw of 39.15 meters (128 feet, 5 inches).
Owen Smith, Carter Leininger, Nate Joven, and Tanner Brooks combined to finish in third place in the 4x100-meter relay, combining for a season-best time of 43.20.
Senior Brayden Curnett raced to tenth place in the 5,000-meter run at Grand Valley State Saturday evening. His time of 14:16.33 is a personal best and ranks 21st among Division III runners this season. Will Neubauer posted a season-best time with a 12th-place finish in the 800-meter run. He finished the race in 1:52.40 for the 38th-quickest time in Division III this season. Haiden Diemer-McKinney finished in 20th place with a time of 1:53.67.
Wabash competes at the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by DePauw University next Friday and Saturday.
