There is a new gym on the east side of town. Ironsmith’s Gym will have a grand opening at 9 a.m. Saturday. The first 100 people to join will get a free T-shirt. Fat Bottom Donuts will be on hand and there will be a live radio broadcast.
Owner Gary Smith has a passion for fitness and wanted to start a business that would really make a difference in people’s lives.
“I’ve seen the power and confidence fitness can have on people not only from a physical standpoint but from an emotional one,” Smith said. “Additionally, I really wanted to offer something for shift workers so they could get their workouts in during those odd hours.”
Smith made transforming the space a family affair and his wife Suzie, an attorney at Taylor Chadd, Minnette, Schneider & Clutter Law, helped during the evenings as did the couple’s children.
“We spent a lot of late nights at the gym working to make it the way we wanted it,” Smith said. “This has been a labor of love and we can’t wait to share our space with the public.”
The gym will be open 24 hours a day and members will enter after regular manned hours with a key fob. There is a wide variety of equipment. There is a cardio area, aerobics room which features different colors of light during class, TRX, Xfit, weight training, support and more. There is no enrollment fee and Smith is offering a 10% discount to students, firefighters and police officers.
“We had a lot of fun making this a place which will be comfortable for people of all fitness levels to work out,” Smtih said. “There is a space for kids to hang out and a coffee station — we want it to be a welcoming environment for people.”
