Harold Leon “Bud” Merryman, 87, of Veedersburg passed away at 3:06 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
Bud was born Sept. 20, 1933, at Cates, the son of Benjamin and Mary (Snoddy) Merryman. He married Verla I. “Peggy” O’Neal on Aug. 10, 1956, at Kingman.
Surviving family include: wife Peggy Merryman, Veedersburg; daughter Christie Ann (Donovan) Badillo, Fort Wayne; two sons, Kevin (Kelly) Merryman, Veedersburg, and Jason (Angela) Merryman, Cheyenne, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Jessica Smith, Trevor Jeffries, Dustyn Badillo, Angel Merryman, Chaz Armstrong, Mercedes Merryman, Trystan Merryman, Anthony Wouster, Skylar Merryman and Carter Merryman; 11 great-grandchildren; and one more great-granddaughter due anytime.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy Merryman and Rudy Merryman; and sister Martha Staggs.
Bud, or as he was known in school, Leon graduated from Kingman High School in 1951. He was employed for 45 years at RR Donnelly in Crawfordsville, retiring in 1996. He was a member of New Century Church near Veedersburg.
Bud loved being outdoors working in the yard on his tractor. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was a basketball referee for several years; he enjoyed watching football with his favorite teams being the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Those attending services are reminded to comply with the current COVID recommendations and wear a face mask.
