The Montgomery County Health Department announced today two deaths related to COVID-19, which are the first of Montgomery County residents. Both individuals were over the age of 60.

“We regret that we must make the inevitable notification of these deaths related to COVID-19 in Montgomery County,” said Dr. Scott Douglas, Montgomery County Health Officer. “We sympathize with families and loved ones who are forced to grieve while distanced from their community of support. We are reminded of our responsibility as the Health Department, and all of us as residents of Montgomery County, to do what we can to decrease the spread of COVID-19.”

No further information about the patients will be released due to privacy laws.

Additionally, the health department has confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 and have launched contact investigations in each case.

Even as the state’s stay-at-home order has been relaxed, practicing social distancing remains vital to managing the spread of COVID-19. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and the Indiana State Department of Health recommend wearing facemasks or cloth face coverings when in public. Face coverings decrease the spread of COVID-19 and is a social responsibility.

Updates and other information can be found on the Montgomery County Health Department website and social media channels.
