Heninger leads Mounties to county gymnastics title

NEW MARKET — Brianna Heninger on her senior night gave the perfect ending for her and the Mountie gymnastics team. The Mounties were named the 2022 county champions as they scored a 93.825 as the Athenians placed second with a an 87.05 while the Chargers were third at 83.15

Heninger took home first place in all three events including all-around, totaling a 33.075. Ella Watson scored a 29.73 and placed second on vault and floor and finished in 3rd place all-around. Chaney Scott added a 28.7254 to round out the scoring for the Mounties on the evening.

The Athenians had a strong showing from Halle Elliot who took placed second behind Heninger in all-around with a total score of 30.55. Elliot would also place second on bars and floor to go along with a third place finish in the vault. Christen Saunders scored a 26.7 for the Athenians and teammate Lily H. also scored a 27.445.

The Chargers had Maggie Yeager lead the way as she ended with an all-around score was a 26.75.

The county meet wrapped up the regular season for all three county teams. They’ll now get ready to compete at next week’s sectional at Lafayette Jeff on Friday night.

Also with the conclusion of the gymnastics meet, that concluded the county match ups for the winter season. Heading into the evening, both Southmont and Crawfordsville were tied with 30 points each in the county chase standings while the Chargers had 16.

With the county title win, the Mounties moved into sole possession of first place with a score of 34 while the Athenians are in second with a score of 32.
